Lubbock Emergency Communication District

Services

Our mission is to ensure that anyone, at any time, using any device can reach emergency services. We strive to provide the most reliable, accurate, technologically advanced, and effective 9-1-1 system for our community.

9-1-1 Network

The foremost job of the District is to provide 9-1-1 service to the citizens of Lubbock County, as well the cities of Abernathy and Plainview. Providing the best possible network enables citizens to access emergency services by dialing 9-1-1.

The District purchases and maintains call answering equipment and software for each of the 9-1-1 call centers, as well as host equipment used to process and deliver calls. This equipment requires regular maintenance and upgrades in order to maintain the utmost reliability and take advantage of the latest technology.

Telecommunicator Training

Call takers and telecommunicators are required to do much more than simply answer a phone. There is an abundance of information with every 9-1-1 call, and this volume of information is growing as technology advances. Telecommunicators must effectively manage all of this information in order to send the appropriate help, as well as keep first responders as safe as possible. The District trains call takers to use proprietary call answering software, as well as call recorders, digital mapping software, and other various resources.

Mapping & Addressing

Location information on 9-1-1 calls can be critical in providing emergency response. The District maintains map data for large portions of Lubbock County, and provides mapping software for many of the call centers within its jurisdiction. As the sole addressing authority for the unincorporated areas of Lubbock County, the District works closely with the various communities in the area to provide a clear an accurate addressing scheme.

Public Education

The District is the primary supplier of educational material and public training programs on the use of 9-1-1. The District utilizes advertisements, presentations, and promotional materials, as well as a Road Show Team comprised of actual 9-1-1 call takers from our local agencies to educate the public on the use of 9-1-1.

Our Mission

"The mission of the Lubbock Emergency Communication District is to provide the best possible, trouble free network for the citizens we serve to access emergency services by dialing 9-1-1; to provide the best tools (equipment and information) to each service provider agency that will enhance their ability to provide public safety services; and to educate the public on the effective and appropriate use of the 9-1-1 network."
